What a season it was! Rehearsing from August 31st through early December, 100’s of hours were donated as so much effort went into this massive production.

Marlene Stanley and Lori Hicks did a fabulous job of selecting pieces that would provide both delight and challenge to the performers and a great evening of entertainment to those who attended the performances.

The city of South Jordan provided funding which paid for, among other things, the sheet music. $30 per person for 140 singers was not cheap. And then there was music for the orchestra, practice halls, and much more to pay for.

The first performance day arrived and amidst the worst blizzard and fog/inversion of the year, people traveled from the south valley to the LDS Assembly hall on Temple Square in downtown Salt Lake. What a magical experience it was to perform in that great hall!

Fortunately by the following week, the weather had greatly improved and we were closer to home. Our experience at Bingham High School was none the less filled with excitement and drama.

On the day of dress rehearsal, one of our performers fainted standing about 5 feet from stage right on the top riser. What a scare to both her and all of us!

It is always amazing to see so many people come together in one performance. The hustle of last minute costuming, stage positioning, lighting and sound…. it all fell in place as Marlene picked up her baton and the program began!

The second night’s performance at Bingham brought even more drama. A performer fainted standing about 5 feet from stage right on the top riser. Exactly the same spot where that had occurred two nights previous! (I’m thinking nobody should stand in that spot!) A little later in the program, yet another performer fainted. This time the performer did not go down gently!

The spirit of this great group of volunteers carried an air of love and generosity that permeated every rehearsal, every activity that lead to the performance dates. This writer cherished every moment!
